the Relic 04:05
Lyrics by Chris Baron (orig) March 2013 Album: Relics ©ChrisBaronMusic2018 I am a relic, foreign in origin I travel through the air with a sense of purpose while others of my kind skim the ground, or safely land I am a tongue for the traveller displaced two generations paced, with a sense of haste I am a relic forged from desperation I am a demon sent back from the storm to make forgiveness from the wreckage I've borne I am a rogue and I was surely torn and bloodied in my former life Now a new purpose is born I am a demon Sent from above to pay tribute to the lady I loved And now I know though my body may cease My lost promises are not buried with me

Lyrics by Chris Baron (orig) Feb 2010 Album: Relics ©ChrisBaronMusic2018 Sometimes, I can’t pick up the phone You’re on my mind But I feel alone I know you’d understand I know you’d listen in You are my oldest friend But I don’t call in Burdens left to contemplate I know that you'd would share my weight But I never ask you to Something I’m afraid to do The heart can turn a thousand times The string is taut, the height is high The fall would surely end it all But the time is ripe for us to try Soul, collisions, and signs do me very well You and I, and both our lives intertwined and close defined Future, past, and present tense can pass between us with a glance The heart can turn a thousand times The string is taut, the height is high Future, past, and present tense can pass between us with a glance Soul, collisions, and signs do me very well

No Solitaire 03:57
Lyrics by Chris Baron (orig) June 2014 Album: Relics ©ChrisBaronMusic2018 Freedom She calls to me She comes for me She won't let me be without her Neither here nor there no solitaire The coast is clear I'm a millionaire Brother Not seen you before Never crossed this hill in this life so far Ground upon the earth Lifted by the sound Rising up to me Or am I falling down…? Leave this to me to level with the gravity Leave this to me, I'll take you in a time of need Leave this to me...even if you walk alone Water I look over the tide I know that freedom waits, towards the other side I build a ship for there I let stars decide We travel as we are...I've never been so far... Stranger Do we not share a cause? Do we not share a bond? On this side of the road... on this side of the row.

the Beacon 04:42
Lyrics by Chris Baron (orig) March 2011 Album: Relics ©ChrisBaronMusic2018 This I know This I know I will absolutely see you again, free as a breeze are we, I will be with you again When I'm gone I'm on the road, I'm searchin' for the payload I've got a dream and a memory waiting for me at home, I did good, you get better with age, and this never will change I give and I receive, behind my demons I leave, I set sail for the horizon and she welcomes me, I did well, and you did better still, I hope the words never change Before I leave, I sneak a token of affection on the cheek, just a treat to remind me all the years and the weeks, I did well, and you did better still, I hope the words never change Down the rivers we ride, on the riverbanks we lie, all my stresses, my concerns they stream away with the tide I did well, and you did better still, I hope the words never change

Lyrics by Chris Baron (orig) April 2012 Album: Relics ©ChrisBaronMusic2018 Time stood still for you and me, and you and I aren’t even real When I rise the song aligns I take my place inside the wheel You and I were made… to be close Push your luck yeah push your luck and you can make this body feel When I rose I went the distance and it makes much little sense but it’s the best I’ve ever been

Purpose 04:33
Lyrics by Chris Baron (orig) May 2016 Album: Relics ©ChrisBaronMusic2017 It starts with a purpose With a rainy day push It moves with a breaking One day it will rush Abandons the boulders Picks up like the breeze It sings like an angel with the greatest of ease It flows with a trickle low facing the south I drink of the water She kisses my mouth We move down together With purpose and pace Trees faster and faster No time left to waste It hums with a chorus of a billion and one It breathes like I'm breathing and the best isn't done It swells like an ocean On the edge of a roar I'm blind and I'm rushing Caught up in it more, and more, and more... It pulled with a purpose It sang from the start Still sings like an angel Still sings from the heart We cut through the valley We cut through the tone It sings like an angel

Lyrics by Chris Baron (orig) Nov 2005 Album: Relics ©ChrisBaronMusic2017 One time, at a glance you would stand a better chance in the rain and with your dirty pants and with the pain you're on a mission bet you are wishin you had more inspiration As far as legs run you’re on strike stuck in a rut feeling so unliked, you here, longing for the fear to take a hike so come clean, be clear, and drink to better life Time, time spent I only caught a quick glimpse of your eyes and I wonder what's going on On time, at a glance you would stand a better chance, with a friend and with your tight face, and with the bends, I can't imagine, but I'm guessin', cuz I've been runnin' down the same stretch, burn bright Roll up my windows as I roll up this city life and its cold cold cold... but only as far as you and me let it go I know what its like to be lost to know your one true hope has been tossed All alone in a crowd no sympathy No magnetism, no no no no love for me I saw a flash of myself in your quick eyes, the way you went inside your head for a brief time And if its just one flash, I understand Leaves me wondering what's been happening... How can I live here? How can I live away?

Lyrics by Chris Baron (orig) December 2016 Album: Relics ©ChrisBaronMusic2017 I tried playing the game but it was no good I tired playing the game when it was all too much One more look at the door but it was no good One more swing at the floor I bet it won't hurt much Now I keep my head down I tried playing the game and was all too much to keep it all up I tried playing the game to keep us all wrapped up but it wasn't enough Cuz you're no longer around I lost a head in the sound I guess, I once played I fell in love with a girl and she was so good Then time started to turn and it was all too much for a time and a half another winter is back I guess I once played I tried playing the game but it was all too much I tried playing the game but it was all too much and it was never enough Yea it was never enough Yea it was all too much And it was never enough because I wanted too much I guess I once played

When.Will.i.Come.Back? Lyrics by Chris Baron (orig) July 2016 Album: Relics ©ChrisBaronMusic2017 Been thinkin' a bit about it Don't think I could live without it But the universe probably has other plans The name Common Man is ill-fitted I'd rather slit my throat than admit it But oh, the universe, always has other plans I…wish you were still around You know who you are, and as for me I need to get back, to the Here and Now Been living in fear about it Can't seem to release the loudest fears in my head but they wanna be free Been lookin' up more, and more, and more A stout sapling on a redwood floor Hello canopy, a miracle indeed let freedom ring bigger than me I sit in silence and think about it No way I can live without it But oh, the universe, probably has other plans

Lyrics by Chris Baron (orig) Oct 20011 Album: Relics ©ChrisBaronMusic2017 I’m on the side of the road, I get sold But they don’t know a thing about me I get sold, I sell me to the sea on the patio And I don’t know a thing about you On the side of the road, get sold, but they don’t know a thing about you I suffer you, less time than I wanted to Only here for a moment I never knew, never had the time to Only here for a moment On the side of the road, get sold, but they don’t know a thing about you I always knew that I would tell the story of another In as many ways as one I play for you, my patio song on the patio Only here for a moment On the side of the road, get sold, but they don’t know a thing about you

Lyrics by Chris Baron (orig) May 2014 Album: Relics ©ChrisBaronMusic2017 When you're alone then, your cover is blown I come clean with the deepest part of me I could be cool or I could be dead I step step to the rhythm in my head I slide in the road but a temporary loss of control don't worry me Only one way to go and I'll get there or I won't, everything's eventually gonna steer me right I slide in the road I could be three, or, more, people a week, or I could sit around naked in my head Two could be worse, or better I take chances in passing weather A little bit of me, for a bit of you I slide in the road but a temporary loss of control don't worry me I got one way to go and I'll get there or I won't, everything's eventual I slide in the road I'll be the man that I can be around you When I'm on my own, hope that's still true I see myself floating above this dread and you below I slide in the road but a temporary loss of control don't worry me I got one way to go and I'll get there or I won't, everything's eventual I slide in the road but my own distraction is all I think about Only one way to go Even though we live together I know, I'll die alone I slide in the road but a temporary loss of control don't worry me Only one way to go and I'll get there or I won't, everything's eventual gonna steer me right I slide in the road

about

This is my third solo album, to follow 2008's *Searchlights In Mexico* and 2014's *Light Up The Sky*.
I made this album entirely on my own, from various home studios as I moved around Portland Oregon during a tumultous personal time between bands and projects and...lifelines.
It all started in early 2016, when all my bands suddenly disbanded.
So I produced a seven-song EP that fall, called it *to Keep Us Close*.
Then spring 2017, I produced another seven-song EP, calling it *Wherever I've Been, Wherever I Go*. Trivia bit: K8npdx did the artwork and layout for this one, she's the GREATEST!
Then in fall 2017, I produced a third seven-song EP, calling it *About What You'd Expect*.

Those of you who saw me live during this time period, saw any one or if lucky all these homemade EPs on my merch table.

Since they were homemade, I was spending quite a bit of time burning and printing CDRs, printing and sticking labels, troubleshooting design flaws as I went...and...

...I decided to take those twenty-one songs, cut seven of them (hard), and release a formal fourteen-song album, which I would call *Relics '16-17*.

Now, I was handmaking (burning, printing labeling, wrapping) only One item. These relics.

Over 2018 and 2019, I have slowly but surely given out most of the physical copies, and have yet to make more copies. So its download or live only for awhile.

I'm cool with the songs. I still play most of them live. And will continue to do so, because they.are.Worth.it. I promise.

Please download and enjoy the Relics!
