I wonder if I'll ever have
to come down off this cloud
and win my debates
Well I can think about it yes
I can see the past the best
better than the present, then
The future is a distant when
the present makes no sense
I'm too close
So I guess I really won't come down,
face regrets and feel the pounds
I wonder if I'll ever feel done
At ease with no sound.

Pieces of Flair
Lyrics by Chris Baron
(orig) spring 2004
©ChrisBaronMusic2020
Pieces of flair
Highlight hair
Tight-fit pants
fit for stealth
Take a chance and be yourself
with pieces of flair
Synergy, rhythm, beat
Creating your surroundings
Take a risk, stick out your neck
Maybe you'll connect...
These pieces of flair adorn me, color-code me for
those enchanting chance encounters, dance for hours,
maybe more
Armed with not just word I come to seal the deal is done,
feel my rhythm

Amputee
Lyrics by Chris Baron
(orig) 10/3/08
©ChrisBaronMusic2020
It’s a dark day, in Portland, Oregon
Some say the rain can wash away the pain
But I don’t feel like today
will be the day that I can cleanse myself of you
I been bumped.
I’ve been a baby, baby
and the morning has left me grey…
But I’ll be makin’ my way to a brighter day
if that’s the worst the universe can say
Why I can’t make up my mind
I’m on stilts somedays and other days grind
I should be able to write my own history
but today I just feel like an amputee
It’s a dark day
in Portland, Oregon
I've got to find my wings so that I can soar again
One thing that I can’t believe is that I still can touch the dream
I’m on stilts, only for a brief brief week
and then I’m back where I started,
confused, bleak
It’s a rainy rainy day
the first of the season
The air is breathin’ and the tires are squeelin’
This ain’t nothing like the winter before
When I was set in my ways like an animal
I’ve got a feelin’, a feelin’
A reason for appealin’
And that’s just fine with me
Cuz I’ll be makin’ my way to a brighter day
If that’s the worst the universe can fling

the Glass Hits the Light
Lyrics by Chris Baron
(orig) 11/20/09
©ChrisBaronMusic2020
I know what you did to me
The glass hits the light
It’s something to see
When she writes, she writes alone
That’s the way she’s always done, so long!
I know what you did to me
The glass hits the light
It’s something to see
Take me there, and make me feel better
This is where the river hits the bend
And this is not a trick
on the eyes
The view is plain as day
and I despise the green, for light is never broken by what it touches
Though I beg the glass
I know what you did, you don't know what I read, Indeed!
The tracks on the ground
There’s no mystery
Take me there, and make me feel better
This is where the river hits the bend
This is make or break for my sweet sunshine
I know what you did to me
I cast it away
From reality
But this is not a curse, we die together
Is it left to me to plant the longest living flower?
Is it getting worse?
Some say never
(but) will I ever take again a sunrise for the better?
And now, this is make or break…for my sweet sunshine

Evangeline
Lyrics by Chris Baron
(orig) 2/22/08
©ChrisBaronMusic2020
And in the end
Yours is the face that I will not forget
You are a silver silk-screen silhouette
And a virgin in your eyes
Sweet undivine
Sashimi cut and served with no pretense
Of exotic descent
And a burden in her eyes
See Evangeline
Take me away into the sweeping strings
Break me to pieces and leave me out in the weather
And change me for the end
Shalom the dawn
Before the evening's done the morning's come
You were amazing but my time is done
And I'm ashamed to see me cry

Pull My Handle
Lyrics by Chris Baron
(orig) 10/6/07
©ChrisBaronMusic2020
Sitting at my window, watching the world pull my handle
wanting it fall out the spout, flow far away
Sitting as my driver, moving no, displaced, then I forget
it’s not how far you travel, but how you move
that makes it cool
I’m fed up, get out of my head
get out of my bed
get out of my
dreams now it seems that I’m
shredding more papers than I ever needed to
Cling
don’t cling to me please
get out there and cut up a rivet
a stream to flow with it
just get all the hope you can muster out into the streets
Sleeping on my pillow dreaming
the world burns my candle
lifting me out, up into another phase
sleepwalk to my spindle, spinning the history of my people
everyone knows how it goes, from childhood
when things were good
I’m fed up, get out of my head
get out of my bed
get out of my
dreams now it seems that I’m
shredding more papers than I ever needed to
Cling
don’t cling to me please
get out there and cut up a rivet
a stream to flow in it
just get all the hope you can muster out into the streets

When Will You Come Back?
Lyrics by Chris Baron
(orig) 11/25/14
©ChrisBaronMusic2020
When will you come back?
You went so far away
Broke my heart
When will you come back to me?
You went so far away, broke my heart
And there will come days when my soul will leave my body,
and my eyes will be trapped inside
And you will think and you will know that my mind is elsewhere,
and my body is an empty shell, then you will ask to yourself
When will you come back to me?
You went so far away, broke my heart
One more start
And there will come
a time
when I will be
able to connect with all of my very own senses
to you
I will look into your eyes, and realize
that it all works better when both of us are Present…
you know I can't stand fences
But in the meantime, in those dark times
in those lonely, lonely, all alone with your own two thoughts
kind of times
You gotta wait, you gotta bide,
cuz there ain't no stoppin' an imperial mind on a personal bender
so I think
When will you come back to me?
You went so far away, broke my heart
When will you come back…to me?

Same Old Tricks
Lyrics by Chris Baron
(orig) 9/21/2010
©ChrisBaronMusic2020
I want the best for another
you can say, for myself, I’m covered
I need a way to get clever
like the feeling that you get
when you ride that river
The flow will always make you go
and you trust the soul, more, the Face of the Music
And tell each other that its forever,
but the look on your face gets longer
Because the same old tricks don’t work anymore
I, in my own absorption,
stepped into a puddle of disproportion
soaking up your pretty legs
I didn’t mean to meet you this way
I come straight from the bottle
The air is my seat and your love my throttle
I know that I can make the best of this mess
and this is the ultimate test, I can’t rest
Because the same old tricks don’t work anymore
I am…
I am a man of stature
I pose for the past and I poise for the future
Three cheers for a number
you pick the hit and I play it with thunder
Every little tiny little line more tender
closer to finding the meaning I render
And just one more time, you get to go back to 1999
where the same old tricks work just like before

Simply Sliding By
Lyrics by Chris Baron
(orig) unknown, sometime between fall 2000 and spring 2001
©ChrisBaronMusic2020
Soft, softly moving
Softly rolling
Simply sliding
I can't write, so I should be sleeping
not deceiving.
Hey now, we've got a situation
Stop, its not perfect
There's a senseless undercurrent
Building blocks, vague insights...still not right
Hey now, slow down, we've gotta slow the rush down
Caught
inside a moment
with a photograph, breaking a smile
cracking a laugh
When its all done, I'm asleep again
Hey now, slow down, I'm sliding
But this time, its ok.

This is a small compilation I made of songs that I kinda like, but, choose to skip playing most of the time. The demos are/were cool. But the songs themselves just never quite grew wings.
If you have ever produced an album yourself or been involved with the process, you probably have great stories about B-sides and Castaways. Hit me up.
