Chris Baron - Give Me December

This song was born of a few inspirations.  I was going through a phase where I was listening to a lot of Punch Brothers, and noting the whimsically melodic sections of their arrangements.  I was also delving back into some clever rock bands I used to listen to like Incubus (especially their song "Follow") and Smashing Pumpkins (their song "Marquis In Spades").  It was mostly solo shows on tour, and I needed a more up-tempo/energetic song to work into my nightly sets.  And finally, I was hoping to produce a sort of "Jack White does acoustic punk"-style song, one that would imply a band, but stand out in a solo singer-songwriter performance. 
We attempted to have drums added but it never felt right, so Glyndon performed the percussive kick and the claps and we were off and running.  Jesse Tomaino from the critically forgotten band A Crab's Life handled the bass, recording it while on the road as a professional disc golfer. 
I've only played it live once, at Winters Tavern in Pacific, California.  I admitted to the crowd that I was nervous because of its difficulty to play.  It went ok by the end, punctuated throughout with claps and stomps and wh00ps, and I was encouraged by them all to keep it in the set.  Which I didn't really do.  Yet.  "Help me remember, give me December!"
