"Lover Song" was originally written far in advance of the album's release.
Evelate probably rehearsed this song towards our end. The Baron Ward definitely performed it on multiple early tours. Huge Sally was familiar with it. The Tummybuckles started with it...this song is actually how I got to know Megan...she said she was a violin player at PCC, and I said I was looking for live strings "for a song"...I played it for her and her cello friend Nicholas, and viola!

The lyrics got their start when my boss (Wendi Eiland) came in raving about a great date she had the prior night with a young lawyer she had just met (they got married eventually). Apparently, at the dinner, she got up to go to the bathroom, and when she came back to the table, he had written in permanent marker on the tablecloth "When I'm with you I don't need anything at all" on her side of the table. So instead of working that day, I worked on lyrics while sneaking glances over my shoulder.
Wendi, I appreciated you, even though I didn't get to express that at the end.
