I wrote this song on Jake Riggs' dusty front porch in Austin TX, during SXSW 2012, after everyone had gone to sleep and I just wanted to sit up and play guitar to get ready for our set the next day.
This song has been performed by The Tummybuckles, The Baron Ward, The AO, and solo over the years.
This I know
This I know
I will absolutely see you again,
free as a breeze are we, I will be with you again
When I'm gone I'm on the road, I'm searchin' for the payload
I've got a dream and a memory waiting for me at home,
I did good, you get better with age, and this never will change
I give and I receive, behind my demons I leave,
I set sail for the horizon and she welcomes me,
I did well, and you did better still, I hope the words never change
Before I leave, I sneak a token of affection on the cheek,
just a treat to remind me all the years and the weeks,
I did well, and you did better still, I hope the words never change
Down the rivers we ride, on the riverbanks we lie,
all my stresses, my concerns they stream away with the tide
I did well, and you did better still, I hope the words never change
