Chris Baron & Searchlights - the Medicine Man

from Light Up the Sky (2014) by Chris Baron Music

/

about

This is a true story. Somehow.

Performed by Searchlights and Huge Sally over the years, this is still in 2020 a standard opening song for my set...especially if I'm planning the second song of the set to be in drop D also...

Jumped off the bus in New Mexico
I met a medicine man on the side of the road
he said,
Son, you look like you’re a long way from home
I can tell from just one look at your eyes
that you despise all the lies
of the corporate crisis in America,
and you’re looking for the payload
He said,
Take care not to scuff your collar
Take this bag of bones and sell it for $30
then head on home to buy the one you love some flowers
This is a gift to a man in need
And I won’t take trade cuz I got no greed
just a passing talent for recognizing distress
I said ok, but I was 4 days late
cuz I lived 2,000 miles away
and now I sit here wondering if I made the right choice

Did I make the right choice?

Downtown checkin out the bustling scene
I saw a sign saying Silence in a neon green
and I could not help myself, I wandered over and tore it down
Now with Silence down, the whole town rose up
and threw petals at the feet of the wonderful cup
that unleashed them from the dirty bonds of self-doubt
I said this is a gift to a town in need
And I won’t take trade cuz I got no greed
just a passing talent for recognizing unrest

Was it for the best?
This is for the rest

[ Jam ]

Was it for the best?
I was just possessed
